The Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has on Monday July 12, 2021 visited Achiase SHS, Aperade SHTS and Akim Swedru SHS as part of his schools monitoring schedule.

The DG met management and staff of each school as well as form three (3) students preparing to write 2021 WASSCE.

Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa commended management and staff on their contributions to the development of the students as well as their performances in the WASSCE last year in spite of their many challenges. The DG urged the teachers to continue with their good works and assured the teachers that their intervention allowance is being worked on and will be paid soon.

The DG said that because of the COVID, Management of GES could not organize the annual workshop for core subject teachers, however, master trainers have been put together to do a recording of lessons in the core subjects which will be given to schools to aid teaching and learning.

Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa in his address to the form three students, encouraged the finalists to be diligent in their preparations. He counseled the students to eschew in-disciplinary conducts. “Try and overcome distractions. Remain focused on the ultimate goal as you take full advantage of the free SHS policy for your future success”, Prof Opoku-Amankwa said.

The heads, staff and final year students of the three schools on their part, commended the Director-General for selecting their schools to be part of the ‘Special DG Intervention’.
The Special DG Intervention is an initiative out of DG’s own resources under which experienced and retired teachers have been hired to support teachers and final year students in the core subjects.

The gesture has so far been extended to the following five SHS: Suhum SHTS, Bodwesango SHS, Aperade SHTS, Achiase SHS and Akim Swedru SHS.
