The Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, accompanied the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Monday, 16th March 2026, as he, together with the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Knowledge Officer, Mr. Paschal Donohoe, visited Mahean Basic School and Garrison Senior High Technical School in the Greater Accra Region. Also present were the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, Ms. Lydia Essuah, and the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi N. Attah.

The visits were conducted to assess the progress of schoolchildren under the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), a partnership project between the Government of Ghana and the World Bank aimed at improving learning outcomes across basic schools in the country.

The Government of Ghana remains committed to the belief that education is the most powerful investment a country can make in its future. Efforts continue not only to expand access but also to ensure quality learning, particularly at the foundational level, where literacy and numeracy shape the entire educational journey of the child.

Professor Davis was particularly excited about the anticipated launch of the flagship programme, Secondary Education Transformation for Access, Relevance & Results for Jobs (STARR-J), which is expected to receive approximately $300 million in support from the World Bank to further transform secondary education in Ghana.
