Mfantsipim School, the reigning champions of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has paid a courtesy call on the Central Regional Director of Education following their historic victory. In line with long-standing tradition, the team presented their trophy to the Director and sought her blessings as they prepare for future competitions. The delegation included members of the quiz team, the Headmaster, Management, and some staff of the school.

The visit was filled with excitement and celebration. The Regional Director, visibly overwhelmed with joy, could not hide her admiration as she sang praises and danced to the melodious tunes rendered by the school’s regimental band.

In her address, the Director humorously recounted how tense she was throughout the grand finale. She explained that with two brothers who are old students of Opoku Ware School and nephews who attended Mfantsipim School, she was unsure which school to support. However, as the Central Regional Director, she knew she could not watch the trophy leave for the Ashanti Region. She expressed her delight that the region not only hosted the competition but also saw one of its own schools, Mfantsipim School, emerge victorious.

She congratulated the quiz team, staff, Management, and the Headmaster for their hard work and the honour they have brought to the region. She urged the students to continue striving for excellence, take their studies seriously, and remain disciplined in all aspects of their lives. She further encouraged staff and Management to continue promoting teamwork to uplift academic standards in the school. As a gesture of appreciation, the Regional Director made a cash donation to the team.

The team later visited the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, at his palace, where they also presented the trophy. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II congratulated the students for their outstanding performance and the honour brought to Cape Coast. Although he proudly identified himself as a Santaclausian, he expressed great admiration for the brilliance and composure displayed by the Mfantsipim team throughout the contest.

He advised the students not to allow their victory to make them complacent but instead to remain humble and dedicated to their academic pursuits for even greater success in the future. The Omanhene also presented soft drinks and a cash gift to the team in recognition of their achievement.

The series of courtesy calls highlighted the pride and admiration the region has for Mfantsipim School’s exceptional performance and reaffirmed the school’s legacy as a beacon of academic excellence in Ghana.

The Methodist Church was also not left out, as the team paid a visit to the Diocesan Bishop of Cape Coast to present the trophy. The Bishop expressed joy over their achievement and encouraged the students to remain steadfast, disciplined, and committed to excellence as they strive for greater accomplishments.
