GES holds nationwide Capacity Building Workshop for Directors

The Ghana Education Service has organised a two-day Capacity Building Workshop for all Regional, Deputy Regional, Metro Municipal, District Directors of Education and General Managers of Educational Units nationwide.

The training, which was held in two cohorts, was organised to equip Directors of Education with effective leadership, management, and innovative skills to enhance learning outcomes while staying updated with best practices and compliance.

A total of one hundred and fifty-seven (157) participants, making up the first cohort of Directors from ten regions, including Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Western North regions, participated in a two-day capacity-building workshop from October 7 to 8, 2024, at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Directors of Education from Metro, Municipal, and District, as well as General Managers of Educational Units summing up to a hundred and forty-two (142) for the second cohort, joined the two-day Capacity-Building Workshop from the Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti, Volta and Western regions from 10 to 11, 2024 at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

In his address, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah, commended the Directors for their support and dedication to duty and encouraged them to embrace management’s efforts to enhance staff development and welfare across the Service.

The Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, added that the training will strengthen management’s efforts to foster productivity and ensure the smooth running of daily activities at all levels.

The training sessions were facilitated by Directors from the GES headquarters, who provided participants with comprehensive training and equipped them with diverse skills, including legal issues, procurement, guidance and counselling, auditing, the Ghana Education Service Management Information System, and the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act.

Besstel Foundation presented on mental health management, while Dr. Joseph Cobbinah engaged the participants in Leadership for Sustainability and Improvement of Learning Outcomes. Michael Arku Kelly, a representative from the Controller and Accountant General Department, addressed payroll issues.
