The Director-General (DG) of Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, has, in a short ceremony, presented one hundred and fifty (150) pieces of desks for the primary pupils and assorted instructional materials for kindergarten to Ashongman Presbyterian Basic 1, 2 and 3 Schools.
The gesture of the Director-General was in fulfillment of his promise to the schools when he visited them early last year prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease.
The schools have, recently, faced some deficits in the number of furniture as against the schools’ rising pupil enrolments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols, including social distancing, the Director-General also deemed it necessary to honor the promise to supply pieces of furniture to the schools.
“I have chosen to honor this promise on my special day, as God has blessed me with an additional year in good health and in sound mind. In this Covid era, GES strives to operate social distancing in classrooms and more desks are required to guarantee such practices in our schools”, DG said.
Present at the ceremony were the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East, Hon Janet Mensah and Municipal Director of Education Alimatu Braimah.
